Using the "Available Means"

Aristotle (384-322 BCE) believed that those who can successfully manipulate language, using the tools available to them to appeal to an audience would find themselves in a position of strength. Test your use of the "available means" by writing a short speech (600 words) in which you persuade your audience to do or think something they do not want to do or think. You may choose the context, audience and topic. Please be as creative as possible. We will share these with the class. 



A clear main idea is stated early in the piece

The piece is written with a specific audience in mind and the rhetoric is appropriate to the context  

The piece appeals to at least two of the following: ethos, logos, pathos

The writer achieves his purpose

The writer is careful to adhere to rules of standard English spelling and grammar
